Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect, & Exploitation Conference
The Butler County Department on Aging was awarded the PEANE grant by the Kansas Department on Aging to provide training to professionals, caregivers, and senior citizens about the warning signs and effects of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. On March 11, 2010, our office, along with PEANE committee members held a Prevention of Elder Abuse Seminar at St. Johns Catholic Church in El Dorado, Kansas. Over 90 participants attended the event where they received information about financial exploitation, increased vulnerability, neglect and abandonment, financial fraud, hoarding, health care fraud, normal aging versus abnormal aging, and the newly formed Senior Consumer Protection Advisory Council in Kansas.
We are currently in the process of applying for another Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation Conference (PEANE) grant for the 2010-2011 funding year.
