Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect, & Exploitation Seminar
The Butler County PEANE Committee was very proud to offer a Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (PEANE) Seminar on March 16, 2011, at Butler Community College’s Welcome Center in El Dorado. This conference is made possible through a grant awarded to the Butler County Department on Aging from the Kansas Department on Aging and the support of Butler Community College
At the seminar, a 106 attendees had a choice of topics and speakers. Those included: Who is Abused/Who is the Abuser (Myra Hyatt with the KUMC’s Landon Center); Compassionate Communication (Dr. Lyn Goldberg with WSU); Sexual Abuse of the Older Adult (Horace Santry with the Sexual Abuse Center), Domestic Violence and the Older Adult (Mary Hunt with AARP). Opening session speaker was Dr. Stephen Benson, a licensed clinical psychologist, whose topics included mental health issues, preventative measures, family dynamics and dysfunction. Closing session was Loren Snell, Jr., Deputy Attorney General/Director of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse division, who spoke on criminal versus civil cases and the power of the Durable Power of Attorney.
